SPEAKER :
"How to address competitive questions involved by digital markets concentration ? Some thoughts coming from the current crisis."
The health crisis and its economic consequences have exacerbated debates about the effects of economic concentration in digital markets, on the need to limit them and on the means to do so. At a time when moratoriums on concentrations are emerging in the United States and when the European Commission is launching a public consultation on the regulation of digital platforms, it seems appropriate to question the determinants of an increasing concentration, on the evaluation of its effects, on its possible acceleration due to the crisis and on its possible irreversibility. By drawing parallels between the current situation and the history of economic facts and thoughts, we will examine the economic and political challenges raised by the concentration of markets and consider the corresponding answers, from strengthening competitive rules to possible structural measures, including regulatory ones.
