The analysis of data has become critical to the development of transport services, particularly with the development of new forms of mobility involving, for example, the linking up of individuals for car-sharing, but also with a view to simplifying multimodal journeys (identifying the optimum journey, setting up one-stop shops) or when it is a question of understanding mobility behaviour in order to invent the supply shock likely to go further in the switch to public transport.
In addition, data is also used to study commercial opportunities related to the journey itself: targeting advertising, commercial spaces in transport terminals (bus stations, railway stations, bus stops), and delivery services in transport terminals are well-known examples.
This predominance of data in the transport offer - whether traditional or organised by digital platforms - as well as in its derived activities, makes the governance of data collection, processing, confidentiality, or simply the use of data, a major socio-economic issue, to which is added that of the confidentiality and preservation of personal data.
In particular, the end of the trilateral relationship between a user, an organising authority and a mobility operator is at the heart of this question of governance, given that the changes at work are at the crossroads of the offerings of each mobility operator. The arrival of new players (the GAFAs, of course) and the related commercial opportunities, as well as the role of companies, make the issue even more complex.
The Governance and Regulation Chair is proposing to address this issue of the desirable data-sharing regime for value-added transport services at a breakfast conference featuring economic players with complementary histories and visions, on Thursday 16 June from 8.30am to 10am at Université Paris Dauphine-PSL or online.
