Séverin Grandcolas is a French national working in the European Commission’s Directorate for Competition, in the unit in charge of State aid to transport since 2014. In this capacity, he has been working on multiple cases in the aviation sector (mostly on State aid to French, German and Italian airports and airlines), in the maritime sector (notably on public service contracts) and in the railway sector. In this sector, his sectorial, economic and legal expertise covers freight, passenger and multimodal transport, and he is actively involved in key State aid investigations as well as in the design of policy initiatives. Séverin provides advice to other Commission’s departments on State aid to transport, notably DG MOVE.

Prior to his current assignment, Séverin worked in DG Competition’s State aid enforcement unit (2011-2013), serving as Country coordinator for France in DG Competition’s State aid network, as well as in DG Competition’s Strategy and Delivery Unit (2009-2011). He previously worked in the European Court of Auditors (2005-2009), where he served as Member or Head of Cabinet of the Greek Member of the Court. He was involved in both financial and performance audits.  Severin also has previous work experience in management consultancy and public affairs companies.

Séverin studied at HEC, Sciences Po Paris (France), Cologne University (Germany) and Georgetown University (USA).
