Shahmeer is undertaking a PhD at Paris Dauphine, PSL within the economics and public policy aspects of transport platforms. His PhD provides insights on the behaviors of users on transport platforms like Uber, CitiBike and Lyft - and how Cities and regulators around the world can make use of various behavioral insights to devise effective regulation for these services. One of the thesis projects examines the impact of adding conventional taxis to the Uber app in various US cities on conventional taxi ridership. Another project investigates pricing behaviors of drivers on the BlaBlaCar platform in response to the platform recommending prices to drivers. A third project investigates the impact of listing a shuttle service on the Uber app in NYC and how this might have environmental implications via reduced Uber ridership. The fourth project of the thesis investigates the impact of congestion taxes for cars entering midtown and lower Manhattan in NYC on bike-sharing ridership, focusing on the Citibike platform.

Prior to starting a PhD, Shahmeer worked within the transport policy space at the International Energy Agency (OECD) and within the GIS space at the KTH University in Sweden, in addition to doing an internship within the energy markets space at General Electric. Shahmeer has a master’s in energy innovation from KTH, Sweden and INP Grenoble, France.
