Mobile operators have begun deploying 5G, which promises a significant increase in speed and reductions in latency, making it possible to develop crucial applications such as autonomous vehicles and intelligent energy distribution. This disruptive technology should also pave the way for a greener Internet of Things.
While demand for new 5G applications remains uncertain, and substantial investment is not guaranteed in the short term, a number of regulatory and political issues need to be addressed.
