Issao Hirata joined the Brazilian Electricity Agency in 2011 and since then he works on regulation enforcement and oversight of the electricity generation market in the country. Over the last few years, Issao has been responsible for implementing regulatory reforms on the way the agency performs its enforcement and inspections activities, focusing on the use of data analytics as tool to implement risk and evidence-based analysis. Currently he is leading a Group for implementing Enterprise Information Management Practices (EIM) at the Agency with focus on the governance of data and the use of analytics as a driver for better regulatory decisions.
Prior to joining ANEEL, Issao has worked as an Infrastructure Analyst at the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy with design and oversight of public policies on Biofuels. Also, Issao has experience on the private sector and has worked with technology development for different companies, both in Brazil and overseas. Issao holds a Bachelor´s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of São Paulo and a Master´s in Electrical Engineering from Korea University.
