William E. Kovacic is Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Competition Law at George Washington University, where he teaches contract, antitrust and government contract law. Before joining GW University, he was a member of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which he chaired from 2008 to 2009. He also served as General Counsel of the FTC, and in 2011 received the Miles W. Kirkpatrick Lifetime Achievement Award from the FTC. Since 2013, he has been a member of the UK Competition and Markets Authority. From 2009 to 2011, he was Vice-Chairman of the International Competition Network. He has also consulted for a number of countries and international organisations on competition policy, consumer protection, public contracts and the design of regulatory institutions.
